This card was said to have be called 'Ned Stokes' according to W. Gurney Benham, Playing Cards, History of the Pack and Explanations of Its Many Secrets, 1931, p.155 which refers to Gentleman's Magazine for 1791, p.151.

However a later edition of this magazine seems to state that it was the 4 that was called 'Ned Stokes' !
