My Dog Skip (2000)A heart-warming family tail that'll make you laugh and cry ... or hurl as Wayne's World would have it. Actually I found it a rather depressing story about a shy boy named Willie growing up in Mississippi during the Second World War. Having a pet dog helps him cope with some unpleasant experiences and eventually surprise, surprise all turns out well. The Bridge interest is restricted to a scene where he sees some elderly relatives playing. This is actually a bit of a goof in my opinion since at that time the game wasn't mostly played by pensioners as it is now, so maybe the screenwriters were viewing the past through current glasses. They goofed elsewhere I noticed in the scene where we learn that Willie's dad won a Purple Heart from the US Government for his armed service in ... the Spanish Civil War (!). Hmmm, I believe that was the one war in the 20th Century where the USA wasn't a combatant. (By the way, strange fact: Great Britain was the only country that fought for the entire duration of World War II.) Given the character Kevin Bacon usually plays in films, it is debatable which side he would have fought for in Spain. SummaryBridge relevance |
