I bid 7NT and discovered that the opponents had an Ace (which they unsportingly cashed). After the game my partner remonstrated with me quite forcefully. My defence:
will: well i thought of 6 but 7NT just seemed more manly somehow
The word 'manly' was used thereafter by my friends whenever I overbid.
As declarer in a 4 level contract I discovered that the trumps were breaking
most unfavourably:
4-0. I voiced my surprise:
will: aaaiiiiiieee
partner: you never learn do you will?
There was a horrible pause while I racked my brains for what I had done wrong. Then:
partner: don't bid suits that are not going to break
I had a partner who had a good way to alerting me that I had made a mistake when he was dummy (table):
partner: cough cough
will: oops
