I watched 'K' and 'J' play one day. They were in trouble: minus 30 IMPs and sinking. 'K' sent me a private message about it:
K to will: we made 130 IMPs yesterday and now it is our turn to bite the big one
will to K: wow and ouch
When I asked 'J' how she thought it was going she replied in private:
J to will: K and i are taking a bath here
The phrase was new to me but I knew what she meant.
Later when I was playing we overbid and got the contract but with no assurance that we were saving against a contract makeable by the opponents. Thankfully I wasn't declarer. As I put my cards down, I said:
will: glp but I think we're going to get wet
Another time, same foreboding:
will: i am definitely expecting rain glp
Then in a game where the opps mistakenly bid too high and in the wrong contract, dummy was moved to speak:
opp: ouch
opp: can we go back to 3NT pd?
opp to will: or even 4 spades
More pain for the opps followed, then:
opp: ouch and ouch
opp: claim partner quickly
