Going Down

I was declarer and in trouble. An friend who was also an opponent knew it and sent me this private message:

opponent to will: you're going down, clown

We were defending and somehow took the first seven tricks off the top to put the declarer 'J' down two. Her partner's analysis was meant to be comforting:

opponent: you did just great after the first 7 tricks

Another time the tables were turned. Partner was declarer, I was dummy and watching the opponents conducting an excellent defence to take the first few tricks - it was clear we were going to be down at least one:

Similarly in another game when I was declarer and the opponents won the first five tricks putting us down one without me having any chance to intervene, all I could think to do was say bravely:
